Threshold concepts have recently made waves across English studies. In Toward an Inclusive Creative Writing: Threshold Concepts to Guide the Literary Writing Curriculum, Janelle Adsit ( 2017) pitches a robust lineup of threshold concepts for creative writing studies, including attention, authorship, creativity, craft, and others.
Threshold concepts are transformative, irreversible, integrative, bounded, and potentially troublesome “conceptual gateways” or “‘portals’ that lead to a transformed view of something” (Meyer & Land, 2006, p. 19).
A threshold concept is something that is held in common by a disciplinary community. A threshold concept brings apparently disparate disciplinary ideas and arguments together, and it therefore creates the space in which you can work.
